NICE

The heart of Cote d’Azur and the main entry/exit point for any places you plan to stay or explore nearby.

STAY
There are several options and places to stay depending on your budget. Since I wasn’t in love with our hotel, I’m offering up a few other suggestions or places that were oversold during our visit:
• Hotel Suisse-amazing views of the Baie des Anges, reasonably priced if they aren’t sold out-book early
• Hi Hotel Eco Spa-ultra modern and the parent of Hi Beach. If futuristic/modern is not your thing, or you aren’t open to trying something new, go for a more traditional option.
• Palais de la Mediterranee-contemporary hotel
• Hotel Negresco-classic, traditional hotel
• La Perouse-contemporary hotel

EAT

Fenocchio
, 2 place Rossetti
Gelato!!! You can never have too much-really. Pick your poison and kick back in the plaza while you enjoy your flavor of the day.

La Voglia, 2 rue Saint-Francois de Paule
Italian restaurant located right in the middle of the action in Old Nice where you are made to feel at home with really great service. They turn the tables fast, so if you are trying to spend 3 hours at dinner, go to another place. Try the focaccia. The ingredients were so fresh that it looked like a work of art-so much that it enticed our neighbors to ask what we ordered and they went with the same. Order a bottle of wine (always the best bang for your buck) and enjoy. The servings are LARGE so depending on your appetite, you may be able to split an entrée if you order an appetizer.

Socca
This is a local specialty that is available from many eateries and is essentially a chickpea crepe. Try this at some point during your visit.

DRINK
Lou Pastrouil
, 12 rue du Marche
Cool bar, cool music. Only order drinks, not food. Kick back, relax and reminisce on your favorite moments from the day.

HI Beach
, 57 Promenade des Anglais
Private beach on the Baie des Anges. Book a spot early before it fills up and enjoy the food and drinks. They make great cocktails whether you are looking for a standard Pastis on ice or a caipirinha.

Beach, Promenade des Anglais
Nice is known for it’s rocky beaches so they are definitely a must do when there. For a less expensive way to enjoy the beach, grab a picnic and find a seat along any of the open/public spaces. Make sure to bring a thick towel to help protect you from the rocks.

Marche aux Fleurs and Cours Saleya, Cours Saleya
The flower and produce market. One of the most beautiful displays of fresh vegetables, fruits, cheese, salumi, and flowers I have seen. So amazing that ½ of the people are shopping and the others taking pictures in amazement of the presentation.

Promenade des Anglais/Baie des Anges
If you are in Nice, this is hard to miss this landmark and part of the reason I encourage you to just walk instead of taking a cab. Running along this Promenade in the morning or evening could be one or the most scenic routes you have ever run.

TIPS
Whatever you do, DO NOT take a cab in this city. Either walk or take a bus. If arriving by train, most hotels are within walking distance, especially if you are staying near the Promenade. If arriving by plane, take the bus into the city.

If traveling to the airport, make your way down to the Promenade and catch the 98 bus direct to the airport for the fastest and most economical way to get there at 6 euros/pp.
